Secondly we have teamed up with a Melbourne based refinery Siltech to supply us with 100% recycled gold. That means 100% post consumer sourced material refined and supplied to us and our casting house where the specific alloys are added and the final product, gorgeous 18ct rose gold, 9ct yellow gold and all the delicious rainbow of golds available! Not only that but these folks recycle X-rays, taking the silver from the celluloid to produce silver for casting jewellery whaaaaat! I know...
Diamonds and Sapphires
All diamonds supplied by Black Finch are conflict free. The majority of coloured diamonds originate in Australia, from Australian material, mined with Australian ethical standards. These stones however are rare and getting rarer….
Australia's biggest diamond mine and the worlds largest diamond deposit is the Argyle mine in the Kimberly region of Australia. Famous for its pink diamonds and lovely champagne coloured stones, a favourite in Black Finch designs. The Argyle mine is due to close soon pushing the value of these diamonds up further. A second mine, the Ellendale mine in Western Australia has produced some beautiful yellow diamonds. The majority of the worlds 'Champagne' colour diamonds originate from Australia. We can supply certified pink, champagne, and cognac Argyle diamonds. both the fact that the mine is closing and the process of certification brings providence, expect to pay a premium but should be considered as a sound investment.
All diamonds both Australian and other available for purchase in Australia are subject to the Kimberly Process" 'The Kimberley Process' an internationally recognised system: 'The Kimberley Process (KP) unites administrations, civil societies, and industry in reducing the flow of conflict diamonds - ‘rough diamonds used to finance wars against governments’ - around the world. 'Please see www.kimberleyprocess.com for more information.
We specialise in ethically sourced Australian sapphires. We are able to source these stones with extraordinary supply-chain transparency. We have visited the actual sites of the mines to directly witness the minimal impact on the environment and workers. Australia has some very small, family run operations, often with just a single person working the leasehold on the minefield. Sapphire mines are very shallow, having a far smaller impact on the land, than large open cut mines, or incredibly deep mines. They are unable to work the field without rainfall so are working within the seasonal and cyclical changes of the climate. Naturally occurring in a magical array of colours from brilliant green, deep blue, orange and lilac and the famous Australian part-sapphire, the selection is incredible. We also delight in rare colour-change stones, bi-colour stones and unusual cuts. We can’t wait to show you.
We also stock some beautiful Ceylon sapphires, we have connected with a small family run mine based in Sri Lanka (home of the Ceylon sapphire) who have run for generations, where we source some of the special colours specific to the region.
