Hi Davina, what’s the inspiration behind the latest collection? 

The cosmos, the stars, the magic of the universe and all that remains unknown will always inspire product development here at Black Finch. Similarly the ocean, water – a symbol of rebirth and its expansive nature, is equally as enchanting as the universe above. 

As someone who lives down the coast, it was also the perfect starting point for designing a summer collection. 

What makes Valley of the Moon different from past collections? 

This isn’t an overanalysed collection and I think that comes through in the product design. The pieces are fine and designed to be layered, to make the piece your own and tie them into your existing collection of jewellery. 

We seldom work with pearls, but we know our customers gravitate towards them as one of our best-selling earrings are the Neptunes Hoops. We wanted to expand our pearl offering and create a beautiful, enduring collection that was affordable and perfect for gifting. Pearls are perfect for any age and feel special enough to gift without holding the price point of a precious gemstone. 

Pearls are often associated with femininity, how did you reflect the Black Finch aesthetic with these pieces? 

The use of pearls felt classic but we punked it up with our signature wax finish details and the phases of the moon. The collection feels romantic but not girly. We don’t do girly. 

Did you have a specific person in mind when designing this collection? 

We think pearls are for everyone, no matter what your age. When designing this collection, we thought more about fashion moments and how we like to dress and style ourselves in the warmer months. Summer is a season where outfits are more effortless, the pieces in our collection appeal to that mindset when you just want a touch of luxe to bring your outfit together. 

What’s your favourite piece? 

It’s hard to choose just one… 

Moontide Earrings, because we all need an elevated stud. You could wear them with your bikini on the beach but also to dinner with a slicked back saltwater bun.

Moonveil Earrings, they really look like moon dust and I’m obsessed! I can’t wait to stack up my ear lobes with the collection – there’s a great mix of plain studs and luxe pieces.
