Frequently Asked Questions

Can a signet ring be a wedding ring?

Yes, a signet ring can make a striking and meaningful wedding ring.

Traditionally used to mark lineage and identity, the signet ring carries a quiet confidence that feels right at home in a modern ceremony. At Black Finch, we love the idea of taking something classic and reimagining it for your story. Whether you keep it minimal and bold, or engrave it with something deeply personal, a signet ring worn as a wedding band makes a statement that’s anything but expected. It’s timeless with edge, just how we like it.

What does a signet ring mean for a couple?

For a couple, a signet ring can be a powerful symbol of unity, legacy, and identity.

Traditionally, signet rings were used to mark family lineage or seal important documents. Today, when chosen as a wedding ring, they speak to something just as lasting, a shared name, a shared story, a bond that’s both bold and personal. Whether you engrave it with initials, a meaningful date, or leave it as a clean, sculptural form, a signet ring carries weight. It’s not just a piece of jewellery, it’s a quiet declaration of who you are together.

Can you use a signet ring as an engagement ring?

Yes, you can use a signet ring as a non-traditional engagement ring, and we love when people do.

A signet ring makes a striking, unconventional choice for a proposal. It’s sculptural, symbolic, and refreshingly unexpected. Whether you keep it clean and minimal or personalise it with an engraving or gemstone, it becomes a deeply meaningful piece, one that reflects your story and your style. At Black Finch, we believe engagement rings should feel like you, not just tradition. So if a signet speaks to your love, we say lean in.

Are signet rings gendered?

Not at all, signet rings are for everyone.

Historically worn by men to signify lineage or authority, signet rings have since evolved into powerful personal statements, regardless of gender. At Black Finch, we see the signet as a beautifully unisex form; bold yet refined, sculptural yet soft. Whether worn on a pinky or ring finger, kept minimal or adorned with stones, it’s all about how you want to wear it. We love helping clients of all genders find a signet that feels like theirs, strong, symbolic, and completely individual.
