Stories Recast: Darcy's Heirloom Rings

THE BRIEF

"My grandfather, a jeweller from Sydney, made my mums engagement and wedding band with diamonds picked by my father. They were an interlocking set, reflecting the waves of the ocean. My dad was a seafarer and spent many months away at sea. When my mum died, I inherited these very special pieces. That was 12 years ago, and I only just felt ready to have them reimagined for a more contemporary design and remade for every day wear." - Darcy

THE DESIGN PROCESS

The redesign honoured both past and evolution. Keeping the essence of the interlocking forms, the flow of the ocean, and the story of unity, while reimagining the design through a contemporary lens. Even Darcy's grandfather’s legacy continued- a gold medallion he once owned was recycled and traded for credit toward the new rings.

THE FINISHED PIECE

An 18ct yellow gold band hand-sculpted in wax to a smooth, domed form that feels like it’s been shaped by water and time, set with Darcy's mother's heirloom white diamond. Plus, a companion ring with eleven repurposed heirloom diamonds, each one flowing into the next like small ripples in the tide.

"It's given new life to and old piece, and sparked a lot of love again!"
