Frequently Asked Questions

Is sapphire an expensive stone?

While sapphire prices vary by size, colour, clarity, inclusions and origin, sapphires are generally considered precious stones. Australian sapphires, especially those with exceptional colour and cut, can be valuable investments. We are often in awe over the sheer beauty captured within sapphires, unique bi-colour rainbows, one-off miracles within nature. These stones often warrant higher price tags given their unrepeatable natural beauty. However, our focus on ethically sourced stones allows us to offer a range of options for different budgets.

Are Australian sapphires valuable?

Yes, Australian sapphires are valuable, they are renowned for their rich, deep colours and unique colour-zoning, making them highly sought-after by collectors and connoisseurs. Origin and responsible mining increase their value, with many Australian stones prized for their rarity and ethical provenance.

Do sapphires hold their value?

Yes, sapphires can hold their value. High-quality sapphires historically maintain or appreciate in value, especially stones with ethical provenance and distinguished cuts or colours. A well-chosen sapphire set in handcrafted jewellery, such as a sapphire ring or pendant, is not only an heirloom but a piece of lasting worth.

Are dark or light sapphires better?

Neither dark nor light sapphires are definitively “better”; it’s a matter of preference. Dark sapphires often display dramatic colour and mystery, while lighter sapphires reveal vibrant brilliance and can show unique colour shifts. At Black Finch, we celebrate the spectrum, each stone is chosen for distinct beauty and meaning.
