Frequently Asked Questions

What is an asymmetrical ring?

An asymmetrical ring is a piece where the design intentionally avoids perfect symmetry. Instead of matching elements on each side, asymmetrical designs embrace balance through contrast. Often with offset gemstones, fluid lines, or unexpected proportions. This creates jewellery with a dynamic, contemporary aesthetic that feels unique to the wearer.

What are the design principals of asymmetry?

Asymmetry in jewellery design is about creating harmony through contrast. Rather than relying on mirror-image precision, these rings play with proportion, movement, and negative space to craft a composition that feels balanced yet bold. In engagement jewellery, asymmetry often highlights the beauty of unusual gemstones or adds an artistic flair to a piece that defies the rules of a traditional engagement ring.

What wedding ring goes with an asymmetrical engagement ring?

Pairing a wedding ring with an asymmetrical engagement ring can be a creative process. Many couples choose a curved wedding ring or sculptural band that flows around the engagement ring’s form, ensuring both rings complement each other seamlessly. Others prefer unique wedding rings that contrast intentionally, allowing each piece to stand as its own artistic statement. Our team of Melbourne jewellers often designs custom wedding bands to harmonise with asymmetrical engagement rings, ensuring the perfect fit and finish.

Is a cluster engagement ring an asymmetrical ring?

Cluster engagement rings often share qualities with asymmetrical designs, as they feature grouped gemstones set in organic patterns that don’t always follow perfect symmetry. While not all clusters are asymmetrical, many fall into this category because they embrace fluidity and non-traditional layouts. Both styles reflect a love of individuality and a departure from uniform design, making them popular choices for those who seek jewellery outside of convention.
