To get you acquainted with our custom design process, we sat down with our Custom Design Lead Naasicaa and asked our most common questions. In doing so, we hope this gives you the confidence to take the next step and make your dream jewels a reality.  

Hi Naasicaa, what do you love most about custom design consultations?

I personally love the meaning that people want to imbue in our pieces, I love our clients' stories, no matter how weird and wonderful. I’ve designed rings to celebrate the stars and to reference rocky landscapes. I've also designed them with greyhounds in mind, to incorporate whole families, to commemorate loved ones and to celebrate incredible individuals and the love that they hold for each other. Our clients are the reason that we do this, it's very special.

How should potential clients prepare for their consultation? 

They should have a little think about what they love. This can be abstract; people, places, animals, culture, plants, or it could be literal; shapes, numbers, colours.

A little research helps too. Our custom design gallery is a great source of inspiration, as well as our current designs on-site. If there are any past custom pieces or live designs that stand out, let us know. 

If there’s anything specific you would like to see, contact us in advance so we can prepare it for you. And most importantly, come with lots of questions – we know a thing or two, please ask us anything!

What if they don’t know where to start?

It's okay if you don't know where to start. We do! We’ve been designing rings for close to two decades (17 years to be exact) and have had many conversations and consultations. We will expertly guide you through a fun exploration of what your perfect ring is. This will incorporate some gentle questioning and a lot of show and tell. 

Any tips or tricks before their consultation?

If you’re coming in without your partner, have a look at our ‘How to Determine Your Ring Size’ page. This will give you some tips for sneakily gathering information on the right fit. 

It’s also important to think about what metal colours they wear. If you’re unsure, check in with a best friend or family member to see if they’ve ever dropped any clues. Mainly though, you know your partner – have a think about who they are and come in with some stories.

What should they expect from their consultation?

Our consultations are 45-minute guided design conversations. They’re not meant to be scary, but a playful and informative process.

We start by showing you our current designs and you will have the opportunity to try everything on to get a sense of what you like the look of on your hand. The custom component of the consultation will be about showing you a range of sapphires and diamonds – we have a wonderful collection available in our Collingwood studio. You will be able to see and choose the stones which will be placed in your ring as well as confirm the design considering the finer details of the piece. 

Do they have to commit immediately after their consultation?

Absolutely not, we will take a few days to put together all of the details from the consultation and send it through to you – from here, have a think. Do you love it? Is there a small change you would like to make? Or maybe it has come in a little out of the budget, we can adjust it. We want it to be perfect.
