Like the old saying goes, ‘when you know, you know’. And this couldn’t be more true with our newest Black Finch couple Selina and Brett who recently said ‘I do’ in April. Their love story started 8 years ago as a brief encounter, seemingly insignificant, however fate had other plans, bringing them together again when they were both cast in the same theatre show.

When and how did you meet one another? 

We met in 2016 through friends. The first time we were introduced to each other was at a party and we spoke for a brief moment. However we got to know each other when we were cast in an independent theatre show together. From then on we were inseparable. 

When did you know you had found your special person? 

Selina: I distinctly remember knowing Brett was the most kind, generous, ambitious and funniest person I had ever met. I feel so lucky to have his support, love and encouragement in everything I do. 

Brett: When my favourite moments in life were always with Selina. The highs were always the highest and when life got difficult, Selina loved unconditionally through every challenge. 

How did the proposal go down? 

We went on a short trip to Apollo Bay in 2022 as Selina had always dreamt of doing the Otway Tree Top Walk. Brett carried the ring with him all day deciding when the right moment was. On the way back to our Airbnb we stopped at the beach to watch the sunset and Brett popped the question then. It was perfect. 

Tell us more about your wedding day... 

We got married on 4/4/24 at Immerse in the Yarra Valley. It was the most perfect autumn day filled with love, family, laughs and lots of dancing. 

Can you share some words on your Black Finch experience?

Working with Black Finch was the best decision. Creating custom pieces, both the engagement ring and both wedding bands, was a seamless process. Every staff member we encountered was helpful, patient and so knowledgeable on design that we felt confident with our decisions. We weren't rushed or pressured – this allowed the space for us to be confident in our choices. Countless emails were answered with grace and patience. I could not fault Black Finch. We look at our rings everyday and feel grateful for the beautiful designs we get to wear.

Selina's engagement ring was a custom designed 3-stone ring featuring a 1.55ct teal Australian sapphire and kite cut diamonds on a knife edge band.
